Felda man hospitalized after crash on Kirby Thompson Road

A Felda man was hospitalized in critical condition Friday, Aug. 7 after a one-vehicle crash at Kirby Thompson and Jacks Branch in Glades County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an unidentified driver was in a 2005 dodge Durango with 35-year-old passenger Brandon Alan Purvis, of Felda.

The Durango was northbound on Kirby Thompson Road when its right rear tire blew.

The front of the vehicle began to yaw to the left and the vehicle crossed the centerline, continuing northwest into the southbound lane.

The driver lost control and entered the grassy shoulder where the vehicle overturned and struck a barbed wire fence. Both occupants were ejected and the Durango came to a final rest upright against a tree.

Mr. Purvis was transported by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The crash took place at around 10:40 a.m.
