Okeechobee man airlifted from crash in Glades County

An Okeechobee man is in stable condition after an accident in Glades County sent him to the hospital.

Pedro Lopez de Haro, 32, was taken to Lawnwood Hospital in St. Lucie County after sustaining serious injuries in a single-car accident, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The accident occurred at around 3:05 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13.

De Haro was traveling as a passenger in a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe when the driver apparently lost control while driving on a residential access road about one-eighth of a mile south of State Road 78 in Glades County.

The driver, Rinella Marie Billie, 43, also from Okeechobee, reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and hit a utility pole support when her car left the roadway.

De Haro was transported by Air Rescue to the hospital with serious injuries. Billie reportedly did not suffer any injuries as a result of the crash.

According to highway patrol, the accident was not alcohol-related, but Billie was charged with careless driving.
