Palmdale man left in serious condition after crash in Glades County

A Palmdale man suffered serious injuries after a tractor turned left in front of his vehicle in Glades County last week, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. on July 2 at the intersection of U.S. 27 and State Road 29.

Highway patrol reported that William F. Clement Jr., 55, of Palmdale, was driving southbound on U.S. 27 approaching a green light at the intersection of S.R. 29.

A tractor, driven by 30-year-old Robert W. Boule Jr., of Punta Gorda, was attempting to turn left onto S.R. 29 from the northbound left turn lane of U.S. 27 when it turned into the path of Clement’s vehicle, according to highway patrol.

Clement reportedly swerved to avoid hitting the tractor but the front of his Chevrolet Silverado struck the tractor’s right-side wheels and the trailer it was towing.

As a result, the tractor reportedly rotated clockwise before striking a second tractor sitting at the red light on S.R. 29. The first tractor reportedly continued moving forward and caused Clement’s truck to rotate clockwise in the painted divided section that separates the two roads.

Clement was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers issued Boule a citation for failing to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn.

According to highway patrol, all three drivers involved were wearing seatbelts.
