Single-car crash leaves driver in serious condition

A Sunny Isles woman sustained serious injuries in an accident on U.S. 27 in Glades County Saturday night, The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 5.

According to a report released by FHP, 22-year-old Marianela Moyano was driving southbound on U.S. 27 approaching the intersection of State Road 78 when she failed to negotiate a curve.

The roads were reportedly slick from recent rains and the 22 year old’s 2011 Honda Civic left the roadway as it went around the curve, striking a stop sign and overturning as it rolled towards a ditch about 200 feet west of the roadway.

The car came to a final stop in the ditch on its driver’s side, according to the report.

Moyano was reportedly transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

A passenger traveling with Moyano, Christine Ramirez, 22, of North Miami, was also transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, the report states.

Ramirez was reportedly wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident, however, it is unknown at this time whether or not the driver was wearing her seatbelt.

The accident was not alcohol related, according to the report, but Moyano was cited for careless driving by highway troopers.
