Accident leaves Moore Haven teen in serious condition

A Moore Haven teenager was seriously injured Sunday in a traffic crash in Lee County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, on Oct. 2 at approximately 8:47 p.m. in Lee County a 2007 Nissan Titan driven by Justin Schipansky, 18, of Moore Haven was travelling on SR-80 in the outside lane. A 2014 Chrysler Van driven by Donald Johnson, 65, of Fort Myers was travelling east on SR 80 in the outside lane.

Traffic in front of the Nissan came to a complete stop and the Nissan swerved towards the north shoulder. The driver over corrected, travelling southwest across both westbound lanes and into the grass median. The left side of the Nissan struck a tree and the vehicle continued to travel across the inside eastbound lane and into the outside eastbound lane into the path of the Chrysler.

The front of the Chrysler struck the left side of the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan, Justin Schipansky, and passenger, Yadiel Sonera of Lehigh Acres, were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The driver of the Chrysler, Donald Johnson, along with passengers Estelle Walker, Rebecca Johnson and Jaycee Johnson were hospitalized with serious injuries. Other passengers in the Chrysler were Charlie Johnson and Sophia Johnson who were reported to have minor injuries. The driver and all passengers were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Charges are pending on an investigation.
