Gator shot trying to snatch dog at Fisheating Creek

A camper at the Fisheating Creek camp ground reportedly shot an alligator after it took hold of his dog sometime last week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported.

The camper was reportedly standing at the edge of Fisheating Creek with his dog when an alligator lunged out of the water and grabbed his dog’s leg, according to a weekly passdown released by FWC.

The camper said the alligator tried to pull the dog underwater, but the camper shot it three times with a snake shot. The alligator reportedly let go of the dog for a second, but grabbed it again to pull it into the water.

The camper shot the alligator two more times with a .22 pistol and it finally let go of the dog.

The dog reportedly suffered injuries to its hind quarters and was taken to a veterinarian emergency room to be treated.

The extent of the alligator’s injuries and the size of the alligator were not reported.
