Miss Glades County pageant
MOORE HAVEN — The Glades County Woman’s Club (GCWC) will hold the 2017 Miss Glades County pageant on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Glades County Auditorium, 700 Terrier Pride Dr. SW, Moore Haven. The smaller pageant will start at 1:30 p.m. and the older division will start at 6:30 p.m. The pageant is for girls 0-19 years of age. Baby miss, Tiny Miss, Little Miss, Princess, Junior Miss, and Queen. This years theme will be a end of summer Luau, complete with pineapples and tiki’s.

Chicken Wing Cook-off
BUCKHEAD RIDGE — The Okeechobee Veteran’s Council is holding a chicken wing competition on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Buckhead VFW, 29012 State Road 78 West in Buckhead Ridge. Entry fee is $25 with judging at noon by Glades County Sheriff Dave Harden, Glades County School Superintendent Scott Bass, Okeechobee County Service Officer Sarah Cutler, and Okeechobee County Commissioner Bryant Culpepper. Meals will be sold for $8 after judging and will include wings, Cole slaw, and baked beans. Entrants may begin at 8 a.m. and cooking must be done on site and with entrants’ equipment. AMVETS host breakfast
BUCKHEAD RIDGE — The AMVETS is hosting a full breakfast on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 8:30 a.m. to benefit hospice for veterans. The address of VFW Post 9528 is 29012 State Road 78 West in Buckhead Ridge. For information, call 863-467-2882.
