On Wednesday, Oct. 12, the “Youth Alive” youth group of The First Baptist Church of Moore Haven celebrated their 10th year of putting on this great event in a special way. We joined together with Heartland FCA’s Fields of Faith to make an already special night even more so.

Coach Hare’s awesome team had speed but the strategy did not pay off for him this year!

This event is billed as a softball game but is so much more than that! We basically share with the community worship music, Christian testimonies and devotions, great food, prizes and add a softball game to the end where youth are invited to play or cheer on their favorite team. All of this is free to each and every youth in our community.

Special to the Glades County Democrat/Lorie Ward. Coach Jamie Brown’s winning team! He had an edge stacking with some great local softball talent!!

This year’s event started a little slow with a bit of rain coming in but the rain went away quickly and all those who weren’t scared away by a little rain had a blast! We had over 40 young people and 40 adults enjoying the great BBQ pork sandwiches on “National Pulled Pork Day!” After all were finished eating, the crowd was invited to come on the field for Worship & Devotion time by our special guest Roy Tosh. Roy is a Christian rapper who resides in Orlando. He was the speaker/musical guest for the whole week of Fields of Faith and we were very glad that he came and spoke and entertained our youth. His message was a very powerful one regarding how no matter what we have done God loves us and wants us to turn to Him and live for Him. His message was mixed between his songs and was a great way to speak to our young people. After our worship time, it was time for our softball game! Even those that decided not to play had a great time cheering from the stands – maybe more fun!!

Special to the Glades County Democrat/Lorie Ward. All youth gathered on the field at the end of the evening for closing prayer.

Once the game was over, all youth and adults were invited back on the field for closing prayer and some really awesome prize giveaways. We truly hope that all that were in attendance were blessed by all they saw and heard and that they will let it change their life for the better! We do have youth group meetings every week on Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. and we welcome all youth from 6th-12th grades. It does not matter if you go to church somewhere else or do not go at all, we want you to know that you are always welcome. We also welcome those who have their own youth groups to join us, as long as their group meets on a different night. Our ultimate goal is for all youth to have multiple opportunities to come together for good as opposed to the many bad choices available.

An event like this would not happen without many people volunteering their time in one way or another and we would like to extend our biggest thanks and sincerest appreciation for each of the following people/groups that helped make this event successful: First Baptist Church of Moore Haven and Pastor Sherrill Tillery, Justin Guerry, Scott Bass, Al Brown, Rayon Campbell and the entire GCSB maintenance department, Tim Vester, Roy Tosh, Etienne Doucet, MHMHS FCA, Bryan Browning, Our GREAT concession stand help – (thankfully – we had so many come to help that I do not want to list for fear of missing one but we love and appreciate them all!), Sarah Tillery, Ronda Perry, Carl Perry, Shelly Ridgdill, Ragen Mathis, Lorie Ward, Jamie Brown, Tommy Hare, Lexie Story, Anita Woods, Joe Thompson, City of Moore Haven, Pedro Navarro, 91.5 The Call radio station, all of the adults who came out to support our Awesome Youth and last but certainly not least, all of the amazing young people who came out – we hope you enjoyed every minute!! I sincerely hope I have not missed anyone but there are always so many to thank that help out before, during and/or after and that is an awesome problem I am thankful to have – so please forgive me!

Thank you all for your part in making this event successful, not so any one person or group can boast, but so our amazing Lord and Savior can be shared with everyone and lives can be changed!! Our purpose in doing this is so all youth will know that there are good things out there for them and that getting involved in the youth opportunities available to them will make a difference in our community.
