A Clewiston man sustained serious injuries from a single vehicle crash on Sunday, Sept. 23.
A Florida Highway Patrol press release stated that at 11 p.m. Patrick M. Johnson, 25, of Clewiston, was operating a 2015 Misubishi Outlander.
The SUV was traveling eastbound on County Road 720 (Tobias Avenue NW) in Glades County. Mr. Johnson came to the secured entranceway, swing access gates, of 204 Locks Road. He attempted to bring the SUV to an abrupt stop. As a result, the SUV’s windshield made contact with the gate access. The windshield was shattered upon impact with the gate access. Mr. Johnson then placed the SUV in reverse gear as it began traveling in a westerly direction in the eastbound lane of County Road 720. While westbound, the SUV struck the north guardrail. The SUV then descended down the elevated north shoulder of the roadway.
The SUV overturned coming to an upright final rest, partially submerged in a canal.
It was reported that Mr. Johnson was charged with careless driving.
The traffic accident was investigated by Trooper T. Parks.
