Glades County hit and run sends three to hospital

Three LaBelle residents were taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon after they were involved in a hit and run accident in Glades County, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported.

The crash occurred at around 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Kirby Thompson Road and East Jacks Branch Road.

Giovani Cruz, 19, Roberto Garza, 16, and Florindalma Girom, 55, all from LaBelle, were taken to area hospitals and treated for minor injuries following the crash, according to an accident report released by FHP.

The three were reportedly traveling in a 2000 Hyundai Tiburon southbound on Kirby Thompson Road when an unknown vehicle entered their lane of traffic. The unknown vehicle was allegedly trying to pass a tow truck it was driving behind in the northbound lane.

When the unknown vehicle entered the southbound lane, the tow truck and a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Christopher Harrison, 25, of North Fort Myers, slammed on the brakes.

The Tiburon, driven by 19-year-old Cruz, reportedly tried to avoid hitting the unknown vehicle and lost control of the car which spun counterclockwise and entered the opposite lane of traffic where it collided with the Crown Victoria.

Both vehicles came to a final rest on the grassy shoulder.

The unknown vehicle reportedly continued on Kirby Thompson Road and did not return to the scene of the accident.

The three LaBelle residents were treated for minor injuries; Harrison reportedly did not suffer any injuries as a result of the accident.

Anyone with information about the hit and run vehicle is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-344-1700.
