Moore Haven traffic crash on U.S. 27

MOORE HAVEN — A Coral Springs woman sustained serious injuries from a traffic crash in Moore Haven on Friday, June 15.

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated that at approximately 3:12 p.m., a 2000 Ford F350 pickup operated by Calvin Lee Billings, 28, Moore Haven, was eastbound on U.S. 27 in the left turn lane.

A 2000 Chevy Silverado operated by Joshua Mullins, 38, Coral Springs, was traveling westbound on U.S. 27 in the outside lane. Both vehicles arrived at the intersection of U.S. 27 and 10th Street at the same time. The Ford pickup failed to yield to oncoming westbound traffic on U.S. 27 and proceeded to make a left turn onto 10th Street. As a result, the front of the Chevrolet struck the right rear of the Ford at the intersection.

Collision impact with the Chevrolet caused the Ford to rotate in a counterclockwise direction. The Ford came to rest in the southbound lane of 10th Street. The Chevrolet came to rest at the intersection.

It was reported that Mr. Billings was transported by Hendry County EMS to Hendry Regional Medical Center. Mr. Mullins sustained minor injuries and the passenger in his vehicle, Jessica Simmons, 30, Coral Springs sustained serious injuries.

Mr. Billings was charged with failure to yield prior to making a left turn to oncoming traffic.
