Suspect arrested for embezzlement from Buckhead Ridge VFW

Patricia F. Yount

In a Jan. 24 press release – Glades County Sheriff, David Hardin, announced the arrest of 44 year old Patricia F. Yount on the charges of Grand Theft over $20,000 but Less than $100,000 (second degree felony) and embezzlement – making false statements in corporate books (third degree felony).

Sheriff Hardin advised that the charges stem from a lengthy investigation, starting back in May 2017, after the Buckhead Ridge VFW became aware of financial issues which were being hidden by the quartermaster (Yount). Detective Sergeant D. Sherley was assigned to further investigate the case which cumulated in the Jan. 24 arrest of Yount.

After subpoenaing certified bank records of the VFW and Yount, the detective was tasked with trying to decipher how much and when money had been taken by Yount. The task became more difficult when it was learned that Yount was presenting falsified bank ledgers to other members of the VFW.

It is a sad day when people want to steal money from an organization who supports our Armed Forces and where most of the members are former men and women who have fought for our Freedom.

Yount will be held without bond until her first appearance hearing.
