Traffic crash on SR 29 results in fatality

A 72-year-old Lehigh Acres woman has died as the result of a traffic crash that occurred on State Road 29 north of Chapparal Avenue on Dec. 28.

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release stated that at approximately 1:56 p.m. a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Jose Silva Sepulveda, 81, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling northbound on State Road 29 north of Chapparal Avenue.

A 1990 Freightliner semi, driven by Iburi Guerrero, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling southbound on State Road 29 south of Chapparal Avenue at the same time.

The report states, the minivan apparently made an improper U-turn in front of the semi. As a result, the front portion of the semi struck the right side of the minivan. Both vehicles came to final rest on the south grass shoulder.

According to the release Migdalia Johnson, a passenger in the minivan, died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Mr. Sepulveda received minor injuries and Mr. Guerrero was not injured.

Everyone was wearing seatbelts.

Charges were pending at the time of the press release.

The accident was investigated by Trooper R. Fleurant, FHP Crash Investigator, and Corporal J. A. Harris, FHP Homicide Investigator.
