Woman dies from injuries sustained in Glades County traffic crash

GLADES COUNTY — An Okeechobee woman died on July 28 from injuries she suffered in a July 27 traffic crash that occurred in the vicinity of County Road 721 and Bullhead Grade.

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) news release stated that at 9:21 p.m. on Friday night, July 27, a 2001 Toyota Camry operated by Jamie Vickers, 38, was traveling north on County Road 721 approaching Bullhead Grade.

The report stated that Vickers apparently failed to negotiate a right curve and the Camry ran off the roadway to the right. The front left side of the Camry struck a tree located on the east shoulder of C.R. 721. The Camry then rotated clockwise around the tree and the rear left side struck a utility pole also located on the east shoulder of C.R. 721. The Camry came to final rest on the east shoulder of C.R. 721 facing west.

Vickers was later pronounced deceased at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. The report stated that Vickers was wearing her seatbelt during the time of the crash.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Justin Sanchez, FHP crash investigator.
